Three spiritual retreats were held this Fall for associate members, collaborators and friends of the Pius X Secular Institute. Two retreats were held at the Maison du Renouveau and one in the United States. With the synod on the family which was held in Rome in October 2015, the Pius X Secular Institute wanted its retreats to be moments of communion with the whole Church by promoting themes that relate to marriage and family.
The Missionary Spirituality of Father Henri Roy
At the Maison du Renouveau, Father Raymond Martel, priest from the Diocese of Amos, spoke to the participants on "The Missionary Spirituality of Father Henri Roy". More than 80 members and friends from different regions of the province of Quebe were able to hear Father Martel present the apostolic fire that burned within Father Henri Roy from his first hours as an Oblate of Mary Immaculate until his passing away in 1965,
In a simple and warm style, Father Martel invited us to recognize the important spiritual heritage each one has received, be it through our family upbringing or through the Pius X Secular Institute. Starting from there, he showed us how Henri Roy was also formed and profoundly touched by the Oblate spiritual heritage he received. The story of the founder of the Oblates of Mary Immaculte, Eugene de Mazenod, left indelible traces in Father Henri Roy's heart. He even takes as his own expressions from Eugene de Mazenod to apply them to his spirituality and his great missionary desire to reach every person so that Jesus Christ be better known, loved and served.
To end his retreat, Father Martel presented the couple as a wonderful school where this missionary spirituality can be lived out. Inspired by Saint John Paul II's theology of the body, Father Martel captivated his audience by inviting every participant to recognize the greatness of the human person. This gift of God is to be shared between man and woman, with the children born from this love, and with the wold in which the couple lives.
Love is our Mission! The Family Fully Alive!
That was the theme for the World Meeting of Families held in Philadelphia (USA) from September 22-27, 2015. It is during these last days of this event that 28 members and friends of the Pius X Secular Institute met in Methuen, Massachussetts to live their retreat under the same theme with Father Marcel Caron.
Inspired by biblical passages relating to family life and marriage, Father Caron invited the participants to hear God's new call to better answer today's challenges that every family meets. From the Scripture passage of Creation to the washing of the feet, from patriarch Jacob's story to the Song of Songs, elements of reflexion and meditation were proposed to allow everyone to question themselves and to give thanks for the joy of the vocation lived out in the family.
More so, an invitation was given to the participants during the sharings and quiet times for the couples : to believe in this beautiful and great vocation as a place of encounter with God and with others. This retreat was able to touch hearts and invite each participant to a new "yes" to the mission so as to to renew all things in Christ !
