A Spiritual Harvest Full of Hope

Last June 9, in Guatemala City, the Pius X Secular Institute convened the members of the region of this Central American country. Father Marcel Caron, director general, and Ms. Suzanne Guérard, member of the general council, were present to celebrate the commitments of several members.

Magda Irene Chávez, Ariel López and Steve Cheté renewed their commitments as consecrated lay members. It was also the occasion to welcome as consecrated lay candidates Aníbal Leonel Rustrian and Tomás Bonifacio Miguel López, who after a period of discernment and preparation, decided to deepen their formation for secular consecration and become members of the Pius X Secular Institute.

It was also with great joy that the members of the region witnessed the definitive commitment of Mr. Edwin Chavez. After 6 years of renewing commitments, Edwin made the decision to move forward with fidelity and generosity in pursuit of Christ who calls him to the total giving of himself.

Edwin wrote a few days after his commitment: “Last Sunday, June 9, 2024, is a fundamental date in my life, because I was able to pronounce with emotion the words of my definitive commitment as a consecrated lay member of the Pius X Secular Institute. It is a thanksgiving to God and to all the good people who, throughout these 8 years, have accompanied my life and my journey within the Institute. It is a thanksgiving that falls short in recognizing all that I have gone through, what I live and will live in this beautiful family of the Institute that I love so much. It is a thanksgiving united to the sentiment of Psalm 116:12: ‘How shall I repay the Lord for all the good he has done for me?’ ‘For he has looked me in the eye and smilingly called my name…’ (Song of the Fisherman).

“It is a wonderful invitation to continue working as a simple laborer in the vineyard of the Lord (cf. Matthew 20:1-16). A starting and restarting each day, knowing that I must ‘put out into the deep’, accompanied by Mary, the morning star, and our good father Henri Roy, to whom I always pray for their intercession for my faithfulness and total perseverance.”

This spiritual harvest is a great sign of hope for the entire Pius X Secular Institute. God is the one who calls and it is up to each one to give the “yes” that can change one’s whole life. The God of surprises who gives a harvest of 30, 60 and 100 percent will always allow our apostolic Family to have the men and women workers to respond to the call of our founder, Father Henri Roy: “It is love that must impel us to action. When we have love, we must undertake everything, attempt everything and try everything.”
