A New Appointment for the Mission

The General Council of the Pius X Secular Institute has endorsed a recent decision by the director general to appoint a territorial director for Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa. Father Miguel Ángel Avendaño Toledo of Guatemala was appointed to this position on March 20, the feast of St. Joseph, for a three-year term.

The territorial director is responsible for helping the Institute carry out its mission in the service of the Church in a given territory, in accordance with the orientations of the General Assembly and the directives of the director general. He animates the life of the Institute in this territory, coordinates its various activities and sees to the formation of members at all levels. He is concerned with making the Institute known and with identifying vocations.

Father Miguel Ángel is a member of the General Council. He assumes this new responsibility in order to accompany more closely the members and the leaders in those parts of the world where the Pius X Secular Institute is present. After Easter, he will travel to the region of Colombia for a few weeks to better know the candidates and the consecrated and associated members who live there; this will also allow him to discover the history of our Apostolic Family which has been in this country since 1968.

The Pius X Secular Institute is currently developing in more than 12 countries in America and in Mozambique in Africa. We wish Father Miguel Ángel a good mission!
