The Pius X Secular Institute is joining the “Giving Tuesday” movement. It’s a global movement focused on generosity to help individuals and organizations transform their communities and the world.
The members of the Pius X Secular Institute have been busy this summer! Because the mission is never on vacation… On the contrary, we are given the grace to share it at all times and in all places… because “our parish is the world”, as our founder, Father Henri Roy, used to say!
From the windows at Newark Airport, I see a large United 787 Dreamliner. It’s not the one that will take me to Guadalajara – where I’m headed for an international seminar of the St. Andrew’s School of Evangelization – but I admit that on this Earth Day, I feel a certain unease.
“Today, as never before, the Church has the opportunity of bringing the Gospel, by witness and word, to all people and nations. I see the dawning of a new missionary age, which will become a radiant day bearing an abundant harvest, if all Christians, and missionaries and young churches in particular, respond with generosity and holiness to the calls and challenges of our time.” These words were written 30 years ago by Pope John Paul II as the conclusion of his encyclical Redentoris Missio.
“During the upcoming 2022-2027 term, the Pius X Secular Institute is committed to being sensitive to the global phenomenon of migration and will promote among its members gestures and actions that raise awareness of this social and human phenomenon in order to foster empathy and solidarity with migrants, displaced persons and refugees.” These are the words found at the beginning of a declaration that the members of the 2022 General Assembly unanimously approved less than a year ago.
The General Council of the Pius X Secular Institute has endorsed a recent decision by the director general to appoint a territorial director for Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa. Father Miguel Ángel Avendaño Toledo of Guatemala was appointed to this position on March 20, the feast of St. Joseph, for a three-year term.
International Women’s Day is coming to an end. All over the world, people have been highlighting the valuable contribution of women in society and the struggles still to be fought for the full recognition of their dignity. And rightly so… because it is not because it is 2023 that it is a foregone conclusion.
On March 7, the Vatican press office announced that Pope Francis had renewed the Council of Cardinals. Among them, Pope Francis has invited Cardinal Gérald C. Lacroix, Archbishop of Quebec and member of the Pius X Secular Institute, to be part of this select group.
On Sunday, October 23rd 2022, the Church will celebrate World Mission Sunday. Each year, this day is offered to us so that all believers can renew their missionary impulse. “You will be my witnesses” is the theme proposed for this year.
For a number of years, Father André Daigneault has been experiencing health problems that have prevented him from having an active ministry. He currently resides at the Cardinal-Vachon Residence in Quebec City. At the age of 84, his condition is stable and he continues to receive friends who support him in this stage of his life.
