Here we are in the middle of our journey towards Easter, towards new life! Do we really believe in it? Even if the sun tries to pierce the clouds, they close in and become more and more threatening. The words of 2000 years ago sound like déjà vu. “It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour, while the sun’s light failed” (Luke 23:44-45).
As I write these lines, the snow and ice in Quebec City are melting under the sun. Spring will be at our doors in a few days with its promises of new life. The Pius X Secular Family is an apostolic Family founded by Father Henri Roy, in Manchester, New Hampshire (United States) in 1939. Consecrated and associate members try by 100,000 means that Jesus be better known, loved and served. Through their involvement in different areas, they become apostles of men and women, young and old. They have just one concern: that the Gospel be proclaimed through their life!
A secular institute is a form of consecrated life in the Church that permits men and women to give their lives to God answering a vocational calling. This vocation is recognized in the Catholic Church since 1947.
In December 2013, members of the Pius X Secular Institute present in Guatemala organized in Jalapa the first American Congress of the Pius X Secular Institute. The Family was taking its first steps in this Central American country… but the inner fire of its members and their thirst to better know the Institute were the launching point for this first Congress. The meeting had the objetive to deepen the knowledge of our Family’s identity and mission and to gather together members from different countries.
A man filled with the love of Jesus, wishing that his whole life be a proclamation of the Good News, Father Henri Roy touched many lives. The witnessing that follows is from Thérèse and Henri Séguin and Jeanne and Julien White, leaders of the first days in the Young Catholic Workers movement in Montreal. Reading these lines, you will be able to find the apostolic fire that Father Roy transmitted to all those he met. This witnessing appeared in Je Crois magazine in June 1985.
